Nominations close Wed, Dec 1 at 5 p.m.

Honouring the outstanding business achievers in our community is a priviledge for the Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce and a highlight on our annual calendar.

The 2010 awards will be presented at a glittering event on January 29, 2011 at the North Coast Meeting and Convention Centre.

These awards pages will be updated regularly as nomination and voting progresses. By following the links below, you will find out everything you need to know about the awards.

Voting Procedure

BUSINESS EXCELLENCE AWARDS VOTING PROCEDURES

Awards for 2010 will be presented at the Business Excellence Awards Gala on January 29, 2011.

The awards categories and the process for selecting the 2010 winners have been refined and improved to ensure that all organizations are eligible for nomination and to ensure fairness and clarity in the selection process.

Nominations

  • Nominations open on November 15, 2010
  • Any member of the community can make a nomination
  • Nominations can be made on paper or online (links are available on the home page of this website). Please note:
    • Only 1 nomination per IP address will be accepted
    • Nomination forms can be obtained from the Visitor Centre or downloaded from the chamber website: www.princerupertchamber.ca
  • Nominations close December 1 at 5 p.m.
  • Nominations will be reviewed to ensure all nominees meet the eligibility criteria of the award for which they have been nominated

Voting

  • Voting opens December 9, 2010
  • Voting can be done online or on paper, as for the nomination procedure.
  • Voting closes December 23 at 5 p.m.
  • Winners of the Excellence in Customer Service, Volunteer Organization of the Year, and Business Newsmaker of the Year awards will be determined solely by the number of votes cast for that organization.
  • Winners of other awards will be determined by a combination of the number of votes cast and a written proposal submitted by the nominees.
    • The top five nominees (vote recipients) in each category will be invited to respond to a 1-page proposal demonstrating how they meet the award criteria and why they deserve the award.
    • Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of judges and winners determined.

Nominees Reception The top five nominees in each category will be invited to attend a Nominees Reception on Thursday, January 13. The finalists (top 3) in each category will be announced.

Business Excellence Awards Gala All finalists will be showcased and winners will be presented with their awards at the Business Excellence Awards Gala on January 29, 2011.

AWARDS CATEGORIES AND DEFINITIONS

Business of the Year Sponsored by BDC Honours a business that has demonstrated excellence through positive growth, superior customer service and outstanding commitment to quality. (Over 25 employees; in operation for over three years)

Rookie Business of the Year Sponsored by Hecate Strait Employment Development Society Honours a business that has demonstrated excellence through positive growth, superior customer service and outstanding commitment to quality. (In operation fewer than three years)

Small Business of the Year—Industry, Manufacturing, Trades, and Transportation Sponsored by Northwest Science and Innovation Society Honours a business in the industry, manufacturing, or transportation sectors that has demonstrated excellence through positive growth, superior customer service and outstanding commitment to quality. (Fewer than 25 employees; in operation for over 3 years )

Small business of the Year—Retail Sponsored by TD Canada Trust Honours a business in the retail sector that has demonstrated excellence through positive growth, superior customer service and outstanding commitment to quality. (Fewer than 25 employees; in operation for over 3 years )

Small business of the Year—Hospitality, Tourism and Service Sponsored by the Coast Prince Rupert Hotel Honours a business in the hospitality or tourism sectors that has demonstrated excellence through positive growth, superior customer service and outstanding commitment to quality. (Fewer than 25 employees; in operation for over 3 years. Includes not-for -profit organizations operated by salaried staff)

Aboriginal Business of the Year
Sponsored by the CFNR Classic Rock This award of excellence is presented to a business that is majority Aboriginal owned and operated.
 
Chamber Member of the Year

Awarded to a chamber member that has made a significant and consistent contribution to the chamber of commerce throughout the year.

Volunteer Organization of the Year Sponsored by Prince Rupert Grain Recognizes an outstanding community or charitable organization that operates primarily through the use of volunteers.
