PrintPRINCE RUPERT – The Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce applauds the Canadian Government’s decision to approve the Pacific Northwest LNG project. The project brings impressive opportunities to the region in an industry that will provide long-term employment and community investment for the North Coast and beyond. Additionally, this project will help to diversify Canada’s export opportunities providing economic stability in the wake of a decreasing US energy export market.

The Chamber notes that with 190 binding conditions to this approval there are additional assurances to protect the natural environment and reduce environmental impacts during construction and operation of the facility.

“It is very reassuring to us all as residents of the area that such an exhaustive and extensive environmental approval process was undertaken,” says Chamber President Keith Lambourne. “I look forward to Pacific NorthWest LNG coming to a swift positive final investment decision so that our entire region can begin to benefit from the extraordinary opportunities that this project will deliver.”
