A bit about Outer Coast Outfitters
Outer Coast Outfitters is an outdoor adventure company helping connect people to nature on the North Coast. Offering guided adventures, gear rentals and outdoor education means Outer Coast Outfitters can take you and your friends, co-workers or family hiking or canoeing by setting you up with equipment for your own trips or teaching you skills to explore safely in wild places. Chris Ridler and April Link began their business out of a shared love for the outdoors and incredible surroundings of the North Coast. Outer Coast Outfitters is the culmination of a vision that blends adventure and the outdoors with a focus on family and team building.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with Chris and April from Outer Coast Outfitters though our experiential programs at the Cassiar Cannery. Their professionalism and congeniality contribute to the success of our programs and I love that I can always count on them to bring a first class experience for our guests. Highly recommended!Justine Crawford
Why Outer Coast Outfitters?
Chris and April are proud to be connecting local kids to their natural environment, revealing new and beautiful places to people who have lived here for years and helping visitors appreciate the natural value of the area. Summer brings a number of new and exciting things:
- canoes available for rent from the Diana Lake waterfront every weekend,
- adult outdoor education programs that just kicked off on the summer solstice with an intro to canoeing clinic
- day camps for kids available either as 5-day or 1-day programs
- private guiding options for adventure travelers.
If you can’t wait for winter, they will be offering snowshoe options again this year. During their first winter, last year, they had great success pairing up with local photographers for snowshoe and photography day trips.
Advice for someone thinking about starting a business?
April and Chris have this advice for anyone thinking of going into business: “Reach out and tap into all of the resources available to entrepreneurs. There are a number of non-profits with funding options, advisors, networking opportunities and all kinds of other ways that they can help so you don’t have to do everything yourself. We have a growing group of entrepreneurs in the northwest, so get connected. We have experienced so many unexpected benefits to doing this.”
Being born and raised in Prince Rupert, BC I thought I had done most of the hikes around the area which are easily accessible. However, April took a coworker, myself and a few others on the familiarization tour, which takes you right up to a waterfall on mount Hays. April is very knowledgeable about Prince Rupert and what is surrounding us. She told us facts about plants and old First Nations legends. We were never rushed to move forward, and hiked the mountain at a pace that was acceptable for all members of the group. When we reached the waterfall she was well equipped for any situation we would encounter. The familiarization tour was exciting for myself, being someone who has lived in the area for a long time, I am confident saying that anyone and everyone would love what this business has to offer.Brianna Hagen
Outer Coast where have you been all of my (kids) life? You are the exact answer to a technology laden world where in a child who craves adventures and explorations is stifled by uncreative directions. On the days when the easy entertainment creates cranky kids, you have given my kids a way to get out and be a kid. They come home excited to share all of their newfound knowledge and when they go to bed, totally tuckered, they just need to know they get to do it again! I love the questions that come from an outing. I love it when they are amazed that I actually know exactly what they are talking about. I love that they teach me things that we can learn more about together. Our family walks are suddenly not a boring chore they are an adventure and a privilege no matter the weather.
Thank you for bringing your fantastic skills to our community and home. I am looking forward to the the adult adventuresCaputo Family
