PRINCE RUPERT – The Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce is pleased to once again host the Annual Business Excellence Awards Celebration on February 27th with the support of the Port of Prince Rupert, the event’s Diamond Sponsor. “We are proud to sponsor the Business Excellence Awards, a relationship that represents a perfect alignment of interests,” said Ken Veldman, Director of Public Affairs for the Port of Prince Rupert. “Prince Rupert’s trade gateway helps create jobs, prosperity and opportunity. The businesses being honoured this year are seizing opportunities to help our community and its entrepreneurs thrive. It is a privilege for the Port to be associated with such a strong group of hard-working businesspeople, leaders and volunteers.” Celebrating more than 50 Finalists in these awards is an honour that the Chamber and event sponsors look forward to each year. This year’s Award Ceremony reflects the passion, entrepreneurial & community spirit of our region.
Voting this year saw a record response with a call for more than 3000 ballots. “The community response was extraordinary,” said chamber president Rosa Miller. “The chamber is delighted to celebrate local business excellence and the people whose enthusiasm, commitment and dedication make this place the remarkable community it is. The level of engagement and support for the Business Excellence Awards is extremely encouraging with the business community coming forward to sponsor the event and get involved by nominating businesses as well as voting.”
This year the event has been moved to the Lester Centre for the Arts to allow the organizers to accommodate a greater number of guests and feature special performers. Opening up this Black Tie evening will be the Champagne Celebration at 6pm where Nominees, Sponsors and Guests will have the opportunity to mix and mingle and have their red carpet photo taken by Lonnie Wishart Photography. The awards ceremony gets underway at 7:30pm and following that is the Official After Party. Miller explains, “We have the opportunity in this location to feature many of the businesses that are finalists with food, beverage and entertainment offerings, it’s a phenomenal way for us to be able to go beyond the awards themselves. Being able to utilize the vast space at Lester Centre to host different types of event throughout the evening is another exciting opportunity for us. The excitement is palpable and attendees are in for a really special night.”
New this year is a live stream provided by CityWest of the event online and on Community Channel 10. “CityWest is proud to be a media sponsor for the Prince Rupert Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards. By leveraging the latest streaming technology, we are able to share the event Live on CityWest Community Channel 10 as well as over the internet. This provides many of nominees’ family and friends to show their support by logging on and watching the event Live on the internet for the very first time anywhere in the world,” shares Donovan Dias, Director of Sales and Marketing for CityWest. Chamber President Rosa Miller comments, “We have a Finalist travelling in Asia who is thrilled to be able to watch the event live and we are excited to have the opportunity to share this event with people at a distance” says Miller.
The Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce thanks its sponsors for helping to make this event possible. Without the generous support of the local business community the Business Excellence Awards wouldn’t happen. Organizations such as the Port of Prince Rupert, the Northern View, Prince Rupert LNG, Ridley Terminals, Pacific NorthWest LNG, The Crest Hotel, CFNR/Northern Native Broadcasting, CityWest, EZRock, CJFW and the other 11 businesses and organizations that support this event are part of what makes Prince Rupert and our neighboring communities strong.
Tickets are still available at the Chamber of Commerce office for $30 each and can also be purchased online through the Chamber Website at princerupertchamber.ca
